2020-07-31: Progress on in-situ interfacial assembly of ultra-H2-permeable metal-organic framework membranes Our group reported synthesis of ultrathin oriented MOF membrane via in-situ interfacial assembly method. The membranes exhibited the permeance of H2 with 6300-10680 GPU and H2 selectivity toward CO2 of up to 86.5, far transcending the Robeson’s upper bound for H2/CO2 separation. This ultra-H2-permeable MOF membranes with high selectivity show great promise for energy-efficient separations. This work has been published in Journal of Membrane Science, 2020, 611, 118419, and highlighted as a Editor's Choice Article for June 2020.

2020-06-18: Progress on high-performance of oxygen transport membrane reactors integrated with IGCC for carbon capture Our group developed a new IGCC process based on a robust oxygen transport membrane (OTM) reactor, where the OTM reactor is used behind the coal gasifier. This IGCC-OTM process fulfills syngas oxidation, H2 production, and carbon capture in one unit, thus a significant decrease of the energy penalty is expectable. The membrane reactor does not use noble metal components, and exhibits stable performance in a gas mixture mimicking real syngas compositions from a coal gasifier with H2S concentrations up to 1,000 ppm. This work has been published in AIChE Journal, 2020, 66, e16247.
